The estate is located in the municipality of Frauenkirchen in the DAC area of Burgenland Lake Neusiedl (Austria). The Franconian-born family has been involved in viticulture since 1755, when the ancestors migrated to today's Burgenland on. Josef "Pepi" Umathum has been a cult figure, doyen and winegrower philosopher within the Austrian winegrowing scene for more than twenty years. The vineyards cover 40 hectares of vines in three locations. The majority is located west and northwest of Frauenkirchen with the vineyards Hallebühl, Haideboden, Kirschgarten and Vom Stein, where the red wines grow. Further areas are in Neusiedl am See and in the community Jois formerly owned by the count on the other bank of Lake Neusiedl. The latter are up to 70% steeply terraced slopes in the vineyards of Junge Berg and Hackelsberg, which were idle for a long time and have been laboriously reactivated.
For generations, quality-oriented selection and propagation of their own vines has been carried out. A specialty of the winery was the Lindblättriger grape variety ( Hárslevelü ) revived in Burgenland.

The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand. The expansion takes place mainly in large wooden barrels made of Austrian oak.
