The estate is located in the municipality Kastelbell-Tschars in the lower Vinschgau below Juval Castle on the corner of the Schnalstal in the Italian wine-growing area South-Tirol
(Region Trentino-Alto Adige
). The total estate covers seven hectares, where vines and fruit for the farm distillery are cultivated. Owner is the famous mountaineer Reinhold Messner. Since 1992, the company has been leased by Gisela & Martin Aurich, who built it as a joint project with Reinhold Messner. The vineyards cover four hectares in south-southeast oriented, mainly steep location at 630 to 850 meters above sea level with pristine weathered soil on gneiss rocks. There, the varieties Blauburgunder, Pinot Blanc, Riesling (25% each), Müller-Thurgau (15%) and mixed sets (10%) are cultivated with a density of 8,000 vines per hectare.
During the harvest, up to three selection courses are practiced with the goal of highly ripe grapes. During the vinification of the wines great value is placed on the layer characteristics with fine aromas and mineral acidity. Among the premium wines are the "Castel Juval Pinot Blanc" with stainless steel and barrel aging on the in stainless steel on the developed "Castel Juval Riesling" in the versions "layer selection" and the sweet "gimmick", as well as the 12 months in wooden barrels (80% barrique, 20% large wooden barrel) developed "Castel Juval Blauburgunder". Every year, an average of 30,000 to 35,000 bottles are produced and about 10% are exported to Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In the in-house distillery pure grappe (pomace brandies) and various fruit brandies are distilled. The winery is a member of the two associations Free winegrowers South Tyrol
and South Tyrolean farm distilleries.
