This traditional winery is located in the municipality of Brauneberg (Bernkastel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. The Haag family, rich in tradition, has been based here since the year 1500. Marcus Haag, a graduate of the Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences and grandson of the founder Willi Haag, took over the wine cellar in 1995 and the overall responsibility for the winery in 1997. The vineyards, 95% of which are on steep slopes, cover 7.2 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Juffer and Juffer Sonnenuhr (Brauneberg), Goldtröpfchen (Piesport), Paulinshofberger (Kesten), Hasenläufer, Kirchberg and Römerberg (Burgen), Sonnenlay (Mülheim) and Kirchberg (Veldenz). They are planted exclusively with Riesling. On average, 60 hl of wine are produced per hectare. The product range is structured according to the VDP classification model. About half of the wines are vinified in residual sweetness, the rest in roughly equal parts in dry, semi-dry and feinherb. In order to accommodate lovers of both styles of taste, the Rieslings are fermented alternately spontaneously or with pure yeasts, which leads to different expressions in the bouquets of the wines. The premium wines of the house include Brauneberg Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese and Brauneberg Juffer Riesling Kabinett feinherb (both Grosse Lage) as well as Riesling Grauschiefer alte Reben trocken (Gutswein). Between 40,000 and 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Two thirds of this is exported. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).
