Editor note: Floral traces and a hint of almonds on the nose, predominantly red berries, delicate herbaceous and mineral notes. Clear, fairly juicy, youthful fruit on the palate, very fine tannins, nutty notes with prominent almonds, light bite, mineral notes in the background, touch of herbs and spices, slightly smoky, fairly firm on a good to very good finish.
Best to drink: To 2022+

The red grape variety comes from Trentino-Alto Adige ( Italy ). The name is probably derived from the Valle Lagarina in Trentino. Synonyms are Blauer Lagrein, Burgundi Lagrein, Lagrain, Lagrino, Lagroin and Landschwarze. A "Red Lagrein" (wine) is called by the Tyrolean farmer's guide Michael Gaismair (1490-1532) around 1525. However, the earliest mention of a Lagrein variety in a document from Gries near Bozen from 1318 refers to a white wine. Until the 18th century, "Lagreiner" was mostly used to mean a white wine. However, its identity is not clear, because it could be Savagnin Blanc ( Traminer ) or to Lagarino Bianco...
