2003 Südtirol / Alto Adige DOC Bautzanum, Alto Adige, Italy

Prominent oak on the nose, sour cherries and black berries. Lots of smoky oak again on the palate, astringent tannins with good presence, fruit slightly subdued, fairly creamy on the palate, herbaceous notes, attractive finish. The heavy oak robs the wine of much of its charm.
