Description to Balaton (Plattensee)

Lake Balaton in Hungary is the largest freshwater lake in Central Europe with 591 km², which is also called "the sea of Hungary". Already the Celts and Romans operated here at the turn of the century viticulture. The area is also considered one of the most scenic in Hungary. Especially the north shore with its sheltered position and excellent sunlight is ideal for viticulture. The great waters exercises a positive regulating influence on the climate out. The soil is a combination of sand and peculiar volcanic cones, the most famous being Badacsony. Above all, here white wines are pressed, the most common grape varieties are Olaszrizling ( ), Skürzebarát ( Pinot gris ) Chardonnay and Rizlingszilváni ( Müller-Thurgau ). There are several wine-growing areas around the lake, these are Badacsony. Balatonboglár (formerly Dél-Balaton), Balatonfüred-Csopak. Balatonfelvidék (formerly Balaton-Mellék) and Zala (formerly Balatonmelléke).
