The winegrowing area lies on the north bank of the Balaton (Lake Balaton) between Badacsony and Balatonfüred-Csopak in Hungary, It is divided into the three districts Káli, Balatonederics-lesencei and Cserszegi. Until the year 1997 Balaton-Mellék was called, the current name means "Balaton Highlands". It is a bit further from the lake, but still has a positive influence. The vineyards cover about 1,350 hectares of vineyards on chalky, volcanic mixed with brown forest soil at 100 to 200 meters above sea level. It is submediterranean climate in front. Here mainly white wines are produced. By the cold air flowing down from the mountains at night, they have a good one acidity and high alcohol content, The most important white wines are Chardonnay, Olaszrizling ( ), Rizlingszilváni ( Müller-Thurgau ), Szürkebarat ( Pinot gris ) Furmint and Zöld Veltelini ( Green Valtellina ).
