DOCG area for red wine in the Italian region Piedmont, That used to be in the DOC area Barbera del Monferrato Wine contained was highly qualified in 2008. The zone comprises around 1,000 hectares of vineyards in 214 municipalities in the two provinces Asti (116) and Alessandria (98).
