Bourgogne Aligote AOC

Description to Bourgogne Aligote AOC

Regional appellation in Burgundy for exclusively white wines made from the grape variety that gives the name. The name may be used by any wine from the entire region if the minimum requirements are met. This concerns the departments of Côte d'Or (91 municipalities), Rhône (85), Sâone-et-Loire (154) and Yonne (54). The commune of Bouzeron is entitled to be named. The areas under vines eligible for this right cover some 1,600 hectares, which corresponds to the quantity of the variety cultivated. The wines, also known as "Muscadet of Burgundy", must be made from 100% pure Aligoté (up to the 1999 vintage, a maximum of 15% Chardonnay was allowed). The wine is also the basis for the aperitif Kir, which was invented here. Well-known producers are Domaine Boyer-Martenot, Domaine Chevrot, Domaine du Corps de Garde, Domaine de la Tour, Domaine Verret, Madame Edmond Chalmeau and A. & P. de Villaine.
