DOC area for white, red and rose wines in the Italian region Campania, Numerous volcanoes have been active in the Phlegraean fields (Campi Flegrei = burning fields) around 20 kilometers west of Vesuvius in the past 40,000 years, which has also shaped the soil conditions accordingly. There are also many thermal springs here. The zone includes the municipalities of Bacoli, Marano, Monte di Procida, Naples, Pozzuoli and Quarto in the province of Naples.
