Description to Charentais

IGP range for red, rosé and white wines in Southwest France, which covers the AOC area cognac equivalent. It includes communities in the two départements Charente and Charente-Maritim with the Atlantic islands Ile d'Oléron and Ile de Ré. The name Charentais may be added to more narrow geographical indications, namely Charente, Charente-Maritime, Ile de Ré (municipalities of Ars-en-Ré and Saint-Martin-de-Ré), Ile d'Oléron (all municipalities of the island) and Saint -Sornin (municipalities Montbron, Orgedeuil, Saint-Sornin, Vouton, Rancogne, Vilhonneur and Yvrac-et-Malleyrand). The most important red wines are Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot. Tannat. Gamay and Pinot Noir, The most important white wines are Arriloba. Chardonnay. Chenin Blanc. Colombard. Fool Blanche. Muscadelle. Sauvignon Blanc. Sémillon and Ugni Blanc ( Trebbiano Toscano ).
