About the red wine from the Sangiovese variety there is a nice story with the famous Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868), born in the city of Pesaro. He had to write the overture to the opera "The Barber of Seville" under great time pressure at the urging of his publisher. He supposedly only managed to do this on time and in very impressive quality because he got the necessary inspiration and drive by enjoying his favourite red wine from the Novilara hills in the Colli Pesaresi area
The Bianco (also known as Spumante) is blended in any mixture of Albanella(Trebbiano Toscano), Verdicchio Bianco, Biancame, Pinot Bianco(Pinot Blanc), Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris), Pinot Nero white pressed(Pinot Noir), Riesling Italico(Welschriesling), Chardonnay and Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc) with a minimum of 75% and a maximum of 25% of other permitted varieties
The wine types Rosso and Rosato or Rosé must be made from at least 70% Sangiovese. The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, the remaining 15% can be other approved varieties. These are the two white wines Biancame and Trebbiano(Trebbiano Toscano), and the red wine Sangiovese (also known as Novello)
The Focara Rosso is produced using any combination of Pinot Nero, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (at 50%), as well as other authorised varieties (except Sangiovese, max. 25% per variety, together max. 50%). The Focara Pinot Nero is made from at least 90% of the variety, pressed in red and white. The white Focara Pinot Nero Spumante is made from at least 85% of the variety
There is a Parco Naturale Monte San Bartolo of the two red wines Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, each with at least 85% of the variety, and a maximum of 15% of other permitted.
The Roncaglia Bianco is blended from white Pinot Nero (25%), as well as from Trebbiano Toscano, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Bianco (max. 75%). The Roncaglia Pinot Nero is made from at least 90% of the variety in red and white. The white pressed Roncaglia Pinot Nero Spumante must contain at least 85%
