Colli Piacentini DOC

Description to Colli Piacentini DOC

DOC area for a wide range of red and white wines in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, which was created by merging a number of independent DOC areas. The former Gutturnio subzone was classified as an independent DOC area in 2011. The name means "Hills of Piacenza" in English. Excavated fossilized vine roots and grape seeds indicate an ancient history of viticulture as early as 2,000 BC

The zone includes the municipalities of Caminata, Nibbiano, Pianello Val Tidone, Piozzano and Ziano Piacentino, and hilly areas of the municipalities of Agazzano, Alseno, Bettola, Bobbio, Borgonovo Val Tidone, Carpaneto Piacentino, Castell'Arquato, Castel San Giovanni, Coli, Gazzola, Gropparello, Lugagnano Val d'Arda, Pecorara, Ponte dell'Olio, Rivergaro, San Giorgio Piacentino, Travo, Vernasca and Vigolzone in the province of Piacenza. Certain municipalities are assigned to the four production zones of Monterosso Val d'Arda, Trebbianino Val Trebbia, Valnure and Vin Santo di Vigoleno with specific types of wine. Many of the following wines are produced in secco or brut, abboccato, amabile and dolce and also produced as frizzante and spumante

The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, the remaining 15% may be other approved varieties. These are the white wines Chardonnay, Malvasia(Malvasia di Candia Aromatica) - also known as Passito, Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris) and Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc), and the red wines Barbera, Bonarda(Croatina), Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Nero(Pinot Noir). The Novello is produced in any blend of Pinot Nero, Barbera and Croatina (zum. 60%)

The white Monterosso Val d'Arda is blended from Malvasia di Candia Aromatica and/or Moscato Bianco (20-50%), Trebbiano Romagnolo and/or Ortrugo (20-50%), and Bervedino(Vernaccia di San Gimignano), Sauvignon and other authorised varieties (max. 30%). White Trebbianino Val Trebbia is produced from Ortrugo (30-65%), Trebbiano Romagnolo and Sauvignon (15-30%), Malvasia di Candia Aromatica and Moscato Bianco (10-20%), and other authorised varieties (max. 15%). White Valnure is produced from Ortrugo and Trebbiano Romagnolo (20-65%), Malvasia di Candia Aromatica (20-50%), and other authorised varieties (max. 15%). The white Vin Santo is produced in any use from Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, Ortrugo, Sauvignon, Marsanne and Trebbiano Romagnolo (zum. 80%). The white Vin Santo di Vigoleno is produced with any mixture of Santa Maria and/or Melara (zum. 60%) and any use of Bervedino, Ortrugo and Trebbiano Romagnolo (max. 40%).
