Côte Roannaise AOC

Description to Côte Roannaise AOC

The appellation, named after the commune of Roanne, is located on the upper course of the Loire, north of the appellation Côtes du Forez and east of the two appellations Saint-Pourçain and Côtes d'Auvergne. The wine transported to Paris via direct canal and river connections gained great popularity in the 19th century. The vineyards cover 220 hectares of vineyards in 14 communes on the left bank of the Loire. The red and rosé wines are made from Gamay grapes. The red wine is similar to Beaujolais. The dry white wines of the region are marketed as Vin de Pays d'Urfé. Well-known producers are Domaine du Fontenay, Domaine du Pavillon and Domaine Serol.
