Appellation within the range Anjou in the winegrowing region Loire named after the Loire Creek Layon. The area has been fruity since the 4th century Sweet wines famous. The area covers about 1,400 hectares of vineyards on slate and sandstone terraces in 27 communities along the river. The AOC applies to whites that are 100% unmixed from rotten (not necessarily) or at least overripe grapes of the variety Chenin Blanc (here Pineau de la Loire) are pressed. Due to exclusive terroirs are there two independent appellations? Bonnezeaux and Quarts de Chaume, The area Chaume (within the commune of Rochefort-sur-Loire) has a special status.
