Description to Côtes d'Auvergne AOC
The appellation is located in the Loire wine region on the upper course of the river. The former VDQS area was classified as AOP in 2009. The vineyards cover 410 hectares of vineyards in 53 communes. There are five sub-areas: Boudes, Chanturgue, Châteaugay, Corent and Madargues, whose names may be added by privileged communes. The red and rosé wines account for two thirds of the production and are mainly made from Gamay with Pinot Noir. The white wines are produced from Chardonnay. Well known producers are Bourcheix, Pradier, Persilier and Prugnard.
