Description to Cotes d'Auvergne AOC

The appellation is in the wine-growing region Loire on the upper course of the river. The former VDQS area was classified as AOP in 2009. The vineyards cover 410 hectares in 53 municipalities. There are five sub-areas, Boudes, Chanturgue, Châteaugay, Corent and Madargues, whose names may add privileged communities. The red and rosé wines make up two thirds of the production and are mainly made from the Gamay with Pinot Noir. The white wines are made from Chardonnay. Well-known producers are Bourcheix, Pradier, Persilier and Prugnard.
