DO area in the southwest of the province of Guadalajara in the large Spanish region La Mancha but outside the DO area La Mancha, which is named after the city of the same name east of Madrid. In the Middle Ages, the wines were delivered to the Spanish court from here. There is a temperate Mediterranean climate with little rainfall in summer. The vineyards cover 3,000 hectares of vineyards in addition to wheat fields and olive groves with two terroir moderately different areas. In the south there are red, loamy sediment soils, in the north calcareous sandy soils. Malvar dominates the white wine variety ( Lairén ) with 80% share, others are Viura ( Macabeo ), Torrontés ( alarije ) and Airén, The main red wine variety is Cencibel ( Tempranillo ), more are Cabernet Sauvignon. Garnacha Tinta. Syrah and Jaén Tinto ( Mencia ).
