DO area in the northwest Spanish region Galicia, The name means "Holy Shore" and refers to numerous monastery foundations in the 12th and 13th centuries. West closes Rias Baixas on. The beautiful landscape with lush forests and vineyards is crossed by three rivers. The area is divided into the six subzones Amandi, Chantada, Quiroga-Bibei, Ribeiras do Miño, Ribeira do Sil-Ourence and Sober. According to legend, the wine from Amandi is said to favorite drops of the Roman emperor Tiberius (42 BC-AD 47). The mostly very steep, terraced Vineyards on weathered slate and granite soils cover 1,200 hectares. The vineyards are located on both sides of the Sil and Miño rivers in the northwest of Ourense province and in the southern part of Lugo province. The most important variety is the red one with around 50% Mencia which must be at least 85% contained in the red wines. Then the red one follows Garnacha Tintorera and the white varieties Albariño ( Alvarinho ) Godello. Loureiro and Treixadura ( Trajadura ). The numerous blended wines are known as "Xenérico" (general varieties), but the effort goes towards it Cry.
