Description to D.O. Ribera del Arlanza

The former country wine sector (VdlT) in the Spanish region Castile and Leon was classified as DO in 2007. Winegrowing was already practiced here by the Santa Maria de Bujedo monastery in the 12th century. The vineyards cover 460 hectares in over 60 municipalities in the three provinces of Burgos, Palencia and Shire Arlanza. The red wines are Tinta del País (Tempranillo), Garnacha, Mencía, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, as well as the white wines Albillo and Viura (Macabeo).
