The wine region in Hungary is about 30 kilometers northeast of the Balaton (Lake Balaton) and just as far west of Budapest. The vineyards cover around 2,000 hectares of vineyards. The climate is characterized by abundant sunshine and little rainfall. Towards the end of the 19th century, József Törley, who had learned his craft in Champagne, became aware of the area, which was due to the loess, chalk and black earth soil and climate excellent for growing Chardonnay suitable.
