Faugères AOC

Description to Faugères AOC

The appellation is located in the centre of the French wine region Languedoc. The red wine was classified as AOC in 1982, the white wine in 2005. The wines belong to the highest quality category "Crus du Languedoc". To the east is Saint-Chinian. The vineyards cover some 2,000 vines at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level on the slate and clay soils known as "Monts de Faugères", which predominate here on the steep slopes of the Montagne Noire (foothills of the Cévennes). They cover the seven communes of Autignac, Cabrerolles, Caussiniojouls, Faugères, Fos, Laurens and Roquessels in the department of Hérault.

Red wine and rosé are blended from Carignan Noir(Mazuelo), Cinsaut, Grenache Noir(Garnacha Tinta), Lladoner Pelut(Garnacha Peluda), Mourvèdre(Monastrell) and Syrah. The white wine is produced from Grenache Blanc(Garnacha Blanca), Marsanne, Roussanne and Rolle(Vermentino), as well as Bourboulenc, Carignan Blanc, Clairette Blanche and Macabeo. The Eau-de-vie Fine Faugères is also classified as AOC. Well-known producers are Domaine Alquier, Domaine Léon Barral, Domaine de Cébène, Château de Estanilles, Château de Grézan, CV de Laurens, Château la Liquière, Maurel Vedeau, Domaine du Météore and Domaine Ollier-Taillefer.
