Description to Greco di Tufo DOC
DOCG area for white wine in the Italian region of Campania. The high-classification took place in 2003 and covers the municipalities of Altavilla Irpina, Chiance, Montefusco, Petruro Irpino, Prata di Principato Ultra, Santa Paolina, Torrioni and Tufo in the province of Avellino. The vineyards are situated between 450 and 500 metres above sea level. The wine is made from Greco (zum. 85%) and possibly Coda di Volpe Bianca (max. 15%). The spumante is produced according to the Metodo Classico(bottle fermentation) and has to mature on the yeast for 36 months. Well known producers are Benito Ferrara, Le Masciare, Mastroberardino (most of the quantity) and Villa Matilde.
