Description to Grés de Montpellier AOC

The appellation is around the eponymous township Montpellier in the northeast of the French wine region Languedoc, The AOC closes to the north Pic Saint-Loup on. It was classified as AOC in 2003 and belongs to the second quality category "Grands Vins du Languedoc". The vineyards cover 1,000 hectares of vines on diverse soils made of sandstone, limestone, pebble and marl. They extend over 46 municipalities in the department Hérault, The red wine is made from at least 2 of the 3 main varieties Grenache Noir ( Garnacha Tinta ), Mourvèdre ( Monastrell ) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir ( mazuelo ) blended.
