Listrac-Médoc AOC

Listrac-Médoc AOC

Description to Listrac-Médoc AOC

One of the six communities (next to Margaux. Moulis. Pauillac. Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien ) within the French area Haut-Médoc, which are their own appellations and may bear the name of the municipality on the bottle label. It covers 640 hectares of vineyards. The name Listrac was supplemented with Médoc in 1986, to a confusion with the area Lirac in the Rhône Valley. The area between Margaux and Saint-Julien is a bit further back from the Gironde and has heavier soils.

There are none of the 61 châteaux at the Bordeaux Classification 1855 were included in the Grand Cru list. Nearly 30 wineries are classified as Cru Bourgeois and a dozen as Cru Artisan. The red wines in the typical Bordeaux blend (left bank of the Gironde) from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot develop slightly faster than in other municipalities. Well-known wineries are Château Clarke. Château Fonréaud. Château Fourcas-Dupré. Château Fourcas-Hosten and Château Peyre-Lebade,
