The appellation is located in the south of the large area Entre-deux-Mers (Bordeaux). Here, viticulture is already documentary documented in the 13th century. It forms an enclave in the appellation Premières Côtes de Bordeaux, The vineyards cover 400 hectares of vineyards on loamy limestone soil on the right bank of the Garonne, Opposite on the other bank are the two better quality areas Barsac and Sauterne, The Appellation Loupiac applies to White wines from the varieties Sémillon (at least 85%), Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle which are considered the best sweet wines of the Entre-Deux-Mers area. Well-known wineries are Clos Jean, Château de Ricaud (owner Alain Thiénot ), Château Loupiac-Gaudiet and Château Rondillon.
