Description to Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG

DOCG area (also Sagrantino di Montefalco) for red wine in the Italian region Umbria, The classification was issued in 1993. The zone covers the entire city community Montefalco (there is also a DOC area under this name) as well as parts of the municipalities of Bevagna, Castel Ritaldi, Giano dell'Umbria and Gualdo Cattaneo in the province of Perugia. The dry red wine is 100% unmixed from the eponymous grape variety Sagrantino vinified. The alcohol content must have at least 13% vol. For the sweet Passito 14.5% vol is required from raisin grapes. The maturation period for both is at least 30 months, of which at least 12 months in oak barrels. Well-known producers include Adanti, Antonelli San Marco, Bocale, Caprai, Colpetrone, Goretti, Lungarotti. Perticaia, Rocca di Fabbri, Scacciadiavoli and Terre de Trinci.
