Appellation in Lasithi district in the east of the Greek island Crete, which is named after the coastal town of the same name. Sitia is one of the four POP areas the island; west of it in the center are the areas Archanes. Dafnes and Peza.Archaeological finds prove a settlement since about 1050 BC. According to Diogenes Laertios (the "tons-Diogenes" was another) Sitia was the hometown of Myson, one of the Seven Sages. It is the center of the extensive olive-growing region. The red wine is made from the autochthonous sorts Liatiko (to 80%) and Mandilaria (max 20%) blended and dry or sweet expanded. The white wine is made from the indigenous varieties vilana (about 70%) and Thrapsathiri (max 30%) generated and dry azusgebaut.
