Appellation in the Lasithi district in the east of the Greek island Crete, which is named after the coastal town of the same name. Sitia is one of the four POP areas the island; to the west of it are the areas in the center Archanes. Dafnes and Peza Archaeological finds have documented a settlement since around 1050 BC. Chr. According to Diogenes Laertios (the "barrel Diogenes" was another), Sitia was the hometown of Myson, one of the Seven Wise Men. It is the center of the region characterized by extensive olive growing. The red wine is made from the autochthonous sorts Liatiko (80%) and Mandilaria (max. 20%) blended and dry or sweet expanded. The white wine is made from the indigenous varieties vilana (70%) and Thrapsathiri (max. 30%) produced and assembled dry.
