Pécharmant AOC

Description to Pécharmant AOC

The appellation for red wines is located as an enclave within the large Bergerac area in southwest France. It includes the municipalities of Bergerac with the eponymous district of Pécharmant (with the Péch hill), Creysse, Lembras and Saint-Sauveur in the Dordogne department with the river of the same name. The oceanic climate is characterised by heavy rainfall in spring and late autumn, hot and dry summers and mild winters. The vineyards cover over 400 hectares of vineyards on south-facing slopes with loamy-sandy soils interspersed with gravel and iron, with limestone weathered in the subsoil. The long-lasting red wines must be blended from at least three of the four authorised varieties: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cot and Merlot. Well-known producers are Château Champarel, Domaine de Cros, Château les Grangettes, Domaine du Haut-Pécharmant, Château Terre Vieille and Château Tiregand.
