Description to Piave Malanotte (Malanotte del Piave) DOCG
DOCG area (also Malanotte del Piave) for red wine in the east of the Italian region of Veneto. The name refers to the Malanotte sub-area in the municipality of Vazzola in the province of Treviso, but in terms of area it corresponds to the Piave DOC area. The wine formerly included there was upgraded to DOCG in 2011. The sweet red wine is made from the varieties Raboso Piave (at least 70%) and Raboso Veronese (maximum 30%, of which a maximum of 5% may also be other authorised varieties). Between 15 and 30% dried grapes must be processed (the method used here is called appassimento). The alcohol content must be at least 12.5% vol. It may only be marketed after 36 months of ageing, of which at least 12 months must be in the barrel and at least 4 months in the bottle.
