One of the three winegrowing regions in Slovenia in the east of the country on the borders too Austria (Southern Styria) and Hungary, The name means "drauland". It lies between the rivers Mura (Mur) and Drava (Drau) with the wine-growing center Maribor (Marburg). There is an alleged 400 year old vine in this town (see below) žametovka ). In the old city center, one of the most important Slovenian wine routes begins. Podravje wine-growing region is divided into the two vineyards of Stajerska Slovenija with 8,685 hectares (Haloze, Ljutomer-Ormoz, Maribor, Ptuj-Srednje Slovenske Gorice, Radgona-Kapela and Smarje-Virstanj) and Prekmurje with 965 hectares (Lendavske Gorice-Goricko). That's a total of 9,650 hectares of vineyards.

Here are largely produced white wines, which are similar in style to those from northern countries. The most important white varieties are Šipon ( Furmint ), Laski Rizling ( ), Renski Rizling ( Riesling ), Traminec ( Traminer ) Chardonnay. Sauvignon Blanc and Sivi Pinot ( Pinot gris ). Interesting small climate zones are around the communities Jeruzalem (Kog, Lahonci), Svecina (Witschen) on the Austrian border, Plitvicki at Radgona (Radkersburg) and Meranovo on Bahern at Maribor. In Meranovo once owned the Austrian Archduke Johann (1782-1859) a large property. Here, the great wine-growing promoter of French oenologists planted a trial vineyard. The flagship operation is Radgonske Gorice.
