Saint-Pourcain AOC

Description to Saint-Pourcain AOC

The appellation is located in the Département Allier in central France, north of the Côtes d'Auvergne area, as well as west of Côtes du Forez and Côte Roannaise. It is part of the Loire wine growing region. The former VDQS was classified as AOP in 2009. In the Middle Ages, white wine enjoyed the highest esteem and was one of the favourite wines of the French royal court and, between 1309 and 1377, of the popes in Avignon. The vineyards cover 550 hectares of vineyards in 19 communes in the valleys of the Loire tributary Allier and its tributaries Bouble and Sioule over a length of 35 km. The red wine is blended from Gamay (40%), Pinot Noir (25%) and Gamay Teinturier. The rosé is made from Gamay grapes. The white wine is blended from Chardonnay (zum. 50%), Tressalier = Sacy (zum. 40%) and Sauvignon Blanc.
