Description to Savennieres AOC

The AOC area is an enclave within the appellation Anjou on the right bank of the Loire in the department of Maine-et-Loire. The already of the Celts founded eponymous community was founded by the Romans in 50 BC. According to the soap herbs growing there, it is called "Saponaria", from which the present name derives. Already at the moment Napoleon (1769-1821), the wine was famous, but was then expanded sweetly. The vineyards cover about 140 hectares of vineyards in the three municipalities Bouchemaine, La Possonnières and Savennières. The sorted out Chenin Blanc dry white wines gives the slate and red sand soil special character. Well-known producers are Château de Chamboureau, Château d'Epire, Château de Plaisance, Château de la Roche-aux-Moines, Clos de Coulaine, Domaine des Baumard Domaine du Closel, Domaine des Forges and Domaine Laureau. There are two special and therefore classified as own appellations layers called Coulée-de-Serrant (7 ha) in monopoly ownership of the Joly family and Roche-aux-Moines (19 ha).
