Area classified as Cru (top appellation) exclusively for Rosé in the southern section of the Rhone, It has a long tradition because the French kings Philip the Beautiful (1268-1314) and Louis XIV (1638-1715), the Popes of Avignon, as well as the writers Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) and Frédéric Mistral (1830-1914) were lovers of this "king of rose wines".
