Description to Tolna
The wine-growing area is located in the central western part of Hungary, southwest of Lake Balaton. It was only defined as a wine-growing region in 1998, although wine-growing has a long tradition here and goes back to the Romans. In the 19th century, the totally low lying viticulture was revived by German settlers. There are dry summers with plenty of sunshine and mild winters. The vineyards cover about 2,200 hectares of vines. The main grape varieties are Chardonnay, Kadarka, Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch), Olaszrizling (Welschriesling), Pinot Blanc, Rajnairizling (Rhine Riesling) and Rizlingszilváni (Müller-Thurgau). A well-known producer is Tûzkõ Birtok.
