The appellation is in the southeast of the area Touraine in the French wine region Loire, The former VDQS area was classified in 2004. The vineyards cover around 150 hectares of vines in 14 municipalities on the banks of the Loire tributary Cher. Red wine and rosé are blended from Gamay Noir (at least 30 to a maximum of 60%), Pinot Noir and Côt (at least 10% each), as well as optional Cabernet Franc and (only if there were stocks before 2004) Cabernet Sauvignon. With Rosé, Pineau d'Aunis (max. 30%) is also allowed. The white wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc (70%), Arbois Blanc (Menu Pineau) and Chardonnay.
