The appellation is located in the southeast of the area Touraine in the French winegrowing region Loire, The former VDQS area was classified in 2004. The vineyards cover about 150 hectares of vineyards in 14 communities on the banks of the Loire Creek Cher. Red wine and rosé are blended from Gamay Noir (at least 30 to a maximum of 60%), Pinot Noir and Côt (at least 10% each), plus optional Cabernet Franc and (only if stocks existed before 2004) Cabernet Sauvignon. For rosé Pineau d'Aunis (max 30%) is allowed. The white wine is made from Sauvignon Blanc (70%), as well as Arbois Blanc (Menu Pineau) and Chardonnay.
