The wine region is in the south Hungary close to the border too Croatia and is named after the city of the same name (until 1999 the area was called Villány-Siklós). The vineyards cover around 2,300 hectares of vineyards. Under a continental climate with Mediterranean influences, with long, hot summers and cold winters, the vines grow on soils that are mainly limestone and dolomite with loess and loam layers. A special feature is a climatically particularly favored mountain saddle in the Villány Mountains, where powerful, long-lived red wines are made under favorable conditions. Around the city of Siklós mainly white wines are made Chardonnay. Hárslevelü (German linden leaf), Olasz Rizling ( ) and Tramini ( Traminer ) produced.
