Description to Vougeot AOC

Community appellation 16 kilometers south of Dijon in the area Côte d'Or, It has just under 200 inhabitants, but is one of the most famous wine-growing communities in the Burgundy, The name is derived from the stream flowing through the village Vouge. Lay here Cistercian monks in the 14th century the famous vineyard Clos de Vougeot in 1330, it was surrounded by a high, kilometer-long wall. It is the only Grand Cru location and covers 50 hectares of vineyards. The four Premiers Crus cover 14 hectares of vineyards, of which the first applies to white wine. These are Les Clos Blancs (Domaine de la Vougeraie monopoly), Clos de la Perrière, Les Crâs and Les Petits de Vougeots. Only about five hectares of wines are marketed under the Village Appellation Vougeot.

The white wines are made mainly Chardonnay with optionally Pinot Blanc and Pinot Beurot ( Pinot gris ), the red wines mainly Pinot Noir with possibly Pinot Beurot and Pinot Liébault vinified. With red wine it is allowed to use up to 15% also the approved white wine varieties. Château du Clos de Vougeot (former Cistercian estate), nestled in the vineyards of Clos du Vougeot, hosts the annual traditional gathering of the Wine Brotherhood as part of the "Les Trois Glorieuses" (Three Glory Days) Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin instead of. Worth seeing is also a mill dating back to the 16th century. Well-known producers are Domaine Bertagna, Mongeard-Mugneret and Vougeraie.
