The white wine appellation is an enclave in the center of the area Touraine in the département Indre-et-Loire in the French wine-growing region Loire, The classification was already granted in 1936. The vineyards cover over 2,000 hectares of vineyards on the right bank of the Loire on clay and gravel soils in the municipalities Chançay, Noizay, Parcay-Meslay, Reugny, Rochecorbon, Tours-Sainte-Radegonde, Vernou -sur-Brenne and Vouvray. The area is traversed by small streams and tributaries of the Loire as the Cisse and its tributary Brenne. On the other side of the Loire lies the appellation Montlouis-sur-Loire,
The acid-rich wines are mostly sorted Chenin Blanc (here Pineau de la Loire or Pineau de Vouvray) with possibly small share Arbois produced and expanded from dry to sweet. The white wines are up to 20 years old botrytis Grapes matured in sweet form can be stored longer. The sparkling wines are differentiated in Vouvray Pétillant (up to 2.5 bar) and Vouvray Mousseux (at 3.5 bar). Well-known producers are Marc Brédif, Champalou, Jean-François Delaleu, Philippe Foreau, Huët, Jean-Pierre Laisement and François Pinon.
