The "Mayschoß-Altenahr eG wine cooperative" was founded in 1868 under the name "Mayschoß winegrower association on the Ahr". In 1982 there was a merger with the Altenahr wine cooperative and in 2009 with the Walporzheim wine cooperative founded in 1871. Rainer Hess is the chairman of the supervisory board, Matthias Baltes as managing director, Rudolf Stodden as sales manager and Rolf Münster as cellar master. Visits to the historic wine barrel cellar with attached wine museum are possible. In addition, a variety of events, such as culinary wine tastings with top chefs around the wine, are organized.
Today, 420 members cultivate 150 hectares of vineyards in the German wine-growing region Ahr
farmed; among other things in the individual layers Eck
(Altenahr), Sonnenberg (Neuenahr), Kräuterberg
(Walporzheim) and Burgberg, Laacherberg, Mönchberg
(Mayschoß). The main variety with around two thirds is Pinot Noir ( Pinot Noir

The cooperative is particularly dedicated to the production of quality red wines. Premium wines include Walporzheimer Krauterberg Pinot Noir, Pinot Noir "R" Ahr Pinot Noir and Edition Ponsart Ahr Pinot Noir. In 2013, the operation was awarded the Federal Honorary Prize DLG
as well as the State Honorary Award of the Chamber of Agriculture and awarded 2014 to the best winegrower cooperative in Germany. The average annual production is 1.2 million bottles. The wines are largely marketed in the three wine shops in Altenahr, Mayschoß and Walporzheim. The cooperative is a member of the Generation Riesling winegrowers' association.
